Important note

In January 2016, the UK Chief Medical Officers published new proposed guidelines on alcohol consumption including new weekly lower risk drinking guidance for adults.

The e-learning modules here were comprehensively revised and updated in 2017 and are in line with The UK Chief Medical Officers’ 2016 guidance on low risk drinking.

NHS Electronic Staff Record - part of the National Learning Management System (NLMS) programme

For most learners, the most flexible way to access the Alcohol IBA in Primary Care e-learning course is via the NHS Electronic Staff Record, part of the National Learning Management System (NLMS) programme. The alcohol IBA e-learning courses are accessible to employees most organisations in England.

The Electronic Staff Record (ESR) facilitates the recording of learning against your portable employee record. Please contact your local learning and development department about accessing this via the ESR.

By registering on the NLMS, you will be able to bookmark your place in the course and it is linked to the NHS ESR system so if your employer  uses the ESR system (e.g. NHS organisations) your learning will be automatically recorded.

e-LfH Foundation e-Learning programme

The Foundation e-Learning Programme is a free and innovative e-learning resource for Foundation doctors.

It is designed specifically to support the Foundation curriculum and is approved by the UKFPO. The material has been developed by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges in partnership with e-Learning for Healthcare (e-LfH).

You will be able to bookmark your place in the course. The system will also keep a record of the learning you have undertaken and record it on your Foundation e-Portfolio (this is generated when you select the self-complete at the end of the e-Learning).

 

e-LfH e-GP e-Learning Programme

e-GP is available to the following primary care professionals who work for the NHS:

•             GPs

•             GP Trainees

•             GP Educators

•             Practice Managers

•             Practice Nurses

•             Physician Assistants

The e-GP online e-learning resource has been jointly developed by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and e-Learning for Healthcare (e-LfH).The e-GP resource provides a programme of e-learning modules covering the RCGP curriculum. Each module is made up of reflective and interactive e-learning sessions that enhance GP training and support preparation for appraisal and revalidation.

You will be able to bookmark your place in the course. The system will also keep a record of the learning you have undertaken and you will be able to print a record of achievement after the final assessment.

Individuals wishing to register for the RCGP Certificate in the Management of Alcohol Problems in Primary Care, Level 1 face-to-face training days from 17 April 2013 onwards, will need to complete the RCGP Alcohol Management in Primary Care e-learning module www.elearning.rcgp.org.uk/alcohol1 (available from 10 April 2013).

If none of the above platforms is accessible to you, this platform allows free access to the courses by anyone with internet access but is not a learning management system. It does not therefore record your learning automatically nor does it support bookmarking. However it will allow you to print out or save a pdf file of your record of assessment.
