In keeping with PSA 25, the Vital Signs and the Alcohol National Indicator (NI39), the Department of Health has put in place a number of initiatives to assist the PCT's with taking action to reduce alcohol-related harm. These include Data and Planning, support and the sharing of learning. The department has invited Primary Care Trusts in England to become Early Implementers in line with the Alcohol Improvement Programme.
PCT's were invited to apply to become part of the Early Implementer's programme in Oct 2008 and 20 trusts have been successful in their bids. The PCT's selected are all located in regions with high levels of alcohol related harm and admissions.
