Yorkshire and Humber regional pages
Alcohol-related hospital admissions in Yorkshire and the Humber have risen 37% - from 66,684 in 2004/05 to 91,345 in 2008/09.
Across the Region, 45% of men and 39% of women report drinking more than the Department of Health recommended daily units (3-4 or 2-3 units respectively) on their heaviest drinking day.
Regularly drinking over the recommended daily amount can lead to cirrhosis of the liver, reduced fertility and high blood pressure, as well as an increased risk of various cancers and heart attack.
Alcohol also contributes to levels of crime, road injuries and deaths, and violence.
This regional section sets out an introduction to the work in Yorkshire and the Humber to tackle these challenges, including key regional documents and contacts.
