Alcohol Improvement Programme Birmingham Draft Study 2009
The number of alcohol-related admissions to acute hospitals has become a major public health concern with Birmingham Local Authority reporting the largest number of hospital in-patient episodes due to alcohol intoxication in the country (NWPHO, 2009). These in-patient admissions form part of a key performance metric (Public Service Agreement 25 or National Indicator 39) which routinely measures the age-standardised alcohol-related hospital admissions rate, with an aim of reducing the current high levels of in-patient stay due to alcohol.
