National Support Teams

From September 2008, an National Alcohol Support Team (NST) will support PCTs and their partner organisations in areas with the highest rates of alcohol related hospital admissions to review their commissioning and delivery systems for alcohol harm reduction and identify what improvements could be made.

The NST must be invited in by a PCT and will carry out a structured diagnostic visit that involves leaders, commissioners and those delivering services from the local organisations that contribute to alcohol harm reduction. The visit is followed by a tailored support package designed to increase their capacity to achieve the VSC 26 and the PSA target.

NST Alcohol Harm Schedule

There will be 10 visits between Sept 08 and March 09. In the second year, 2009/10 there will be 18 visits and 20+ visits in the third year depending on demand and a review of the process. The NST will liaise with and involve Regional Offices in planning visits.
